Today in Lazdijai region Šeštokai town –extraordinary day. By height marker installation symbolically commemorated day of one of the most moderns pedestrian overpass in the country via “Rail Baltica” railway in Šeštokai construction start. European track railway divided town into two parts already in the year 2015. Inhabitants of Šeštokai in order to reach other side of railway township part have to make 2 kilometers length detour by foot till the nearest railway crossing.
In June 2017 Panevėžys University of Applied Sciences starts admission to new Road Engineering study programme. Aim of the programme – to prepare specialists able to organize and technically manage road construction and repair works, apply optimal and safe work implementation methods, design simple road and road construction projects, keep professional competence in life-long learning. In summer 2017 group of future road engineers specialists will be formed in part time studies.

According Mr. Laurynas, Head of the Intellectual Transport Systems Department of LRA there’s a lot of work done in EU in smart road field and countries cooperate. Now transport corridor between Rotterdam and Vienna about 1000 km in length is build. It is planned to make a test field of newest technological decisions where innovative systems could be tested live there.
